A Great Find

So a close friend of mine being very generous gave me a great gift this holiday season. Always searching for anything fly tying related to add to my ever growing and out of control fly fishing library, this particular book is a huge score. Hooks For The Fly by William Schmidt is a wonderful addition.

This particular book has been in print since 1997 and although there are some newer models of hooks available, this book is an absolute must have for those of you in need of a reference for comparable hook brands. Let's face it, there are so many different brands and styles of hooks available out there, and sometimes a certain recipe may call for a specific hook which you may not be able to get your hands on.

This book is great, it not only gives descriptions and definitions on all the nomenclature associated with the hook and it's design, but also breaks each brand down into a very readable chart with a description on every aspect of the hooks design and use.

The other great tool in the book is a comparison reference chart for all brands at the end of every chapter making it easy to find an alternative hook for your recipes. Two thumbs up and a great reference to leave at your tying desk.
