2012 For Catching Shadows

I'm gonna keep it short and sweet.  I want to thank everyone who has helped build this custom fly business from the ground up.  I never imagined the transition to go from guiding to commercial tying as well as it did, and I owe all of my friends, family, customers and fan base for all of your continued support.

Hopefully 2013 will be another year of growth in the right direction.  I already have some great ideas in the works in regards to fresh patterns, as well as building the library of patterns currently available in the store.  There might be a couple of new sections in the store as well, keep your eyes peeled there.  For now, here is a quick little video I put together from my fishing efforts from 2012.  Lets just say its a quick little highlight reel of some of the more memorable moments.  The soundtrack is rather fitting too, as this past year I got the opportunity to fish on some of the best days rather than give them up to my customers (sorry folks).

Enjoy and I hope you all have a happy and safe new year!

Realistic Baitfish Streamer Is Now Available

If you recall, say about a month ago, I was tinkering around with a pretty nice and easy little bait fish streamer.  Single hook, smaller compared to my normal fare, for those of you out there who requested such a fly, the time is now.
The 5 colors from top to bottom, brown, black, tan, white and olive

I have just unveiled the Realistic Bait fish Streamer in the fly store.  She comes in five colors and two size currently, like my normal course of action, I like to keep things simple.  Coming in around 2-1/2-3 inches long, unweighted and easy to cast.  More colors and sizes to follow, but for now here is the line up, and check her out in the store, she swims nice too.
Wet, mm tasty

December 14, 2012......

Words cannot describe how many people in Connecticut feel right now after what transpired in the last 24 hours.  Several of us here have either had an indirect or direct connection with the horror that unfolded in Newtown yesterday morning, many peoples lives are forever changed, while others were cut short way too early.

Many different feelings have run through my mind after yesterday; sadness, anger, helplessness to name a few.  I don't really think some people understand the sheer magnitude of what exactly happened, and that is not even the fault of their own, nobody really is prepared to deal with such a horrific event.   I guess it strikes home for me and many of the other people who live here as it happened so close to home.

Thankfully, everyone in my family is safe, my friends as well, but I have many friends who are directly involved in that tragedy who have a very tough job to do.  I can't even imagine how they feel about any of this, especially those who are parents of young children like myself.  What I can say, is I don't think I really understood the true meaning and value of family and friends until yesterday.  I will admit that even though I see my loved ones everyday, something many of us do routinely, I never truly grasped just how much those close to me really matter to me until yesterday.  I can't even fathom how those parents are coping with the losses of their children, it is unthinkable and incomprehensible.

Do yourselves a favor this holiday season, slow down, stop for a second and recognize all that you are thankful for.  Hug your kids, call your close family and friends, let them know you care, don't take it all for granted, and never forget what happened yesterday, you just never know if and when pure evil could step into your life and change it forever.

Most importantly, be kind to one another and try and focus on the positive things in life, and never forget to let those close to you in your life know that you love them.  My heart goes out to all the families who lost someone yesterday, and to all those families, friends, children, school faculty, first responders and various other personnel who are directly involved.   May God see you through this very tough time, and give you the strength and courage to persevere.

Busy Holiday Season

Are you ready yet?  I'm certainly not, I haven't even begun any sort of holiday shopping to speak of.  It's that time of year when fly tying for most kicks into full swing, and everyone is surfing the web looking for new patterns, little tricks or next years hot fly.  I have seen a spike in the traffic to the website annually now once November is upon us, and this year the numbers continue to rise.
The Results of Playing Around with Clear Cure Goo.  A Much More Durable Woven Mayfly

To go with this annual spike, I too have tried to keep things fresh with new content when time permits obviously, but in the middle of the fray of life, some things get put aside.  That DVD project for example, uh yeah, not happening right now.  My apologies folks, gonna work on that after the new year.  The show season is upon us, and I will be attending a few of them this winter, so there will also be a few weeks prior to their arrival where all in house orders will get put aside, only to get some stuff together for people to purchase at the show.  The symposium last month was an eye opener for me, and it was very apparent that I needed to have more "stuff" so to speak for those in attendance.  Consider that done, so when any of you see me at Fly Fishing Show in Marlborough and Lancaster, The Bears Den, or any other venue for that matter, I will have some of my more noteworthy patterns on hand for purchase.
Having A Little Fun With Aperture

The creative bug has once again struck me square and I have had some really great ideas that I have kicked around with some of my fly tying cronies.  Mike Schmidt and I talk daily either through text or a simple phone call, and we both are constantly thinking of fresh ideas.  I have gotten myself back in line with Social Media, and I truly understand it's importance in regards to building a brand and establishing a group of loyal followers.
A Full Compliment Of These Will Be Added To The Store By Weeks End

To go hand in hand with this, I have devised a couple of short term goals for the quickly arriving new year, and I would like to share some of those with you all.  First and foremost, I'd like to grow the number of likes on the Fan Page I have on Facebook.   Currently we are at about 360 likes, I would like to see this get to 500 soon, and a longer short term goal of 1,000 by the end of 2013.  Hit the business card below to be redirected to the fan page.

To kick things off, I'd like to get a little sweepstakes going, when we hit the magic 500 mark, I'll be doing a drawing for  a mixed selection of my patterns.  I won't let the cat out of the bag yet on what or how many, but it will be generous, I promise.  As we near the target, expect a follow up post with a picture of the prize.  Tell your friends, create some buzz, it's greatly appreciated.

Having A Great Birthday Present

So I fished today, my favorite way, down and dirty, big streamers, big fish.  I had a pretty banner day to say the least.  Let's just say I netted four fish over 23 inches with the biggest at 26-1/4".   Courtesy of the olive/black Headbanger Sculpin.  Thank you Headbanger Sculpin for a great birthday present.

I also would like to thank Brian Carson at Clear Cure Goo for bringing me aboard the Pro Staff.   I truly enjoy using the products and have all kinds of goodies in store to share for you tyers out there.  Check the CCG facebook page, and give the "Goo" a like.

For now, here are some pictures from today.  Enjoy them, I sure am.
