Tying Class Updates

The forthcoming classes at Upcountry are all but full.  The local favorites classes are both filled as is the streamer singles class.  Right now, the articulated streamers class is the only one with any openings and I suspect this is largely in part because we have labled it as an advanced ordeal.  If you are having any reservations after reading that class curriculum, look at it this way,  I've decided to keep the class small so that we can cover things better.  I have learned from past experiences that this class in particular moves along at the pace of the weakest link, so to keep this class feasible and worth you while I have decided to keep the class to a limit of 4 participants.

I realize the number of flies that it states we will cover is much smaller than that of the others, but in all actuality we will most likely tie 5-7 patterns.  You also have to take into consideration that these flies are like tying 2-3 in one and require some time, so don't let that intimidate you.  You do however need more than the basic level of tying skills to be in this class so do take that into consideration. I am also in the middle of working with the folks at Concord Outfitters on putting together some classes their way too, so stay tuned.

We are in the show season my friends, however I will most likely not be at any this year.  I will miss you all there but plan on being back next year, even at some new venues.  I will leave you with whats on my mind these days..... STEEL..

Extended Weekend Getaway.

Back for about 12 hours now from a well needed fishing excursion to the tributaries of Lake Ontario.  This trip at one time in my life was one that happened several times on a yearly basis.  Fast forward to today, and it is one that happens if I am lucky once every other year.  The icing on the cake these days when I go, is I have had the opportunity to fish with some new faces.  The older I get, the more I realize that it truly isn't about the what, how many and how big the fish are that I catch, it is more about who you share it with.  This past weekend was one of those types of weekends.   Once again, I will let a few of the photos do the talking, and yes, in the midst of all that nostalgia, we actually caught some nice fish too......

Update Of Things To Come....

I Even Got To Throw Some Meat Recently
Ever feel like a huge weight has been lifted off your shoulders?  I am currently feeling that way, but I know it is only temporary.  I completed (for the most part) my book project last week.  First manuscript done, photos and captions done and off in the mail.  I don't really feel any sense of accomplishment quite yet, as I know the editing phase will be the next step so don't go thinking you'll be seeing this thing on the shelves quite yet.  There's still a great deal of work ahead of me, but I feel pretty good about things right now and look forward to what the end product will look like.  In all honesty, I am fairly certain however that it would be best case scenario this time next year the book will be available, but I can't say for sure.  I will however keep you all updated and you will be able once it's published,  to get a copy here.

Aside from that rather interesting experience, you all have been fairly aware that I had some  major changes this year that required me to devote my free time to  the book and not to tying orders of flies.  I am still uncertain where or how I will proceed with things in the months to come as my free time is still greatly reduced for a variety of reasons.  I do know however that the desire to continue to experiment at the vise building some different flies is still very strong, I just am uncertain how or if I will get back into the commercial tying side of things.  If I do decide to continue that venture, it may be on a very limited basis.  What I do know is I wanna get back on the video train again.  I have some ideas kicking around my melon that will build on the library of videos I already have out there.  My goal is to start shooting tying videos once again after the new year, maybe a little sooner, book edits to dictate.

This fall, so you all know, I had to make the command decision to forego any of the flyfishing and tying shows this winter for a variety of reasons.  I truly enjoy seeing my many flyfishing friends as well as all of you who have supported and followed my addiction here, but something had to give and it was in my best interests to skip them this year.  I fully plan on being back out there in the fall of 2015 so excuse my absence this year folks.

Next month the beginning of a good pile of fly tying classes will begin.  I am really looking forward to these classes as I enjoy teaching others this skill.  I am currently also working out some particulars to head out and do the same at a few other shops in the New England area.  Once we iron out the particulars, expect to see more about them here.

Lastly, I am also diligently working with Montana Fly Company to bring the masses more of my fly patterns.  The goal is to expand my library, and provide all of you some of my top producers.  You may see more of the flies that have become pretty popular in the last 5 years as well as a variety of some new stuff too in the next few years.  As this progresses I will keep you all informed.  For now, I gotta get back to cleaning up my tying shop as I fill up a few boxes for next weekend, looks like I'm going fishing real soon........
